Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to join our Paediatric Critical Care team.

As a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse, you will have the opportunity to work a minimum of hours per week across days, nights, and weekend shifts.

Main Duties:

  • To provide clinical leadership and ensure a high standard of individualised nursing and family-centred care is delivered to critically ill children.
  • To work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team, communicating effectively with all levels of medical and nursing staff.
  • To uphold PCCU's Nursing Philosophy of Care.
  • To effectively manage PCCU on a day-to-day basis, in the absence of a Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.

Paediatric Critical Care (PCC) at Oxford University Hospitals includes co-located Level and critical care beds, delivering a wide range of specialist services to patients from Oxfordshire and the wider Thames Valley and Wessex Paediatric Critical Care Operational Delivery Network (TVW PCC ODN).

We are a leading Neurosurgical and Major Trauma Centre and have a vast number of medical and surgical specialities. The unit is undergoing an exciting period of estate and workforce development and investment, with a move into newly built units within the next few years.

Education, Development and Training

We provide a structured competency-based development programme, and we are piloting an in-house PCC specialist course for nursing staff. Clinical and leadership career development pathways are available.
