A new opportunity has arisen to extend the Dedalus framework for the Direct Statistical Simulation of partial differential equations in multi-scale physics and fluid dynamics. The project involves working with the Dedalus developer team and Profs. Steven Tobias and Brad Marston to provide a flexible package to generate and solve systems of equations for the statistical properties of fluid flows in Cartesian, spherical, and cylindrical geometries.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop object-oriented and functional programming practices using Python
  2. Apply mathematical statistics to derive equations and solve systems
  3. Implement multi-scale modelling and model-reduction techniques for PDEs
  4. Utilize spectral numerical methods to solve systems

A background in Machine Learning or computational optimisation would also provide relevant skills. The project combines several new areas in statistics, PDEs, and automated computational science, requiring an eagerness to learn and apply different mathematical and computational techniques to diverse physical applications.
