Senior Environmental Health Officer

The Community and Environmental Health Team (CEHT) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Environmental Health Officer to take on the role of Senior EHO within the Housing and Public Health Team.

The Team is based in West Hartford Community Fire Station, Cramlington, Northumberland, and sits within the Council's Public Protection Service.

This Service is responsible for a wide range of regulatory functions including Environmental Health, Trading Standards, Building Control, and Environmental Enforcement.

The CEHT has 16 staff, with areas of responsibility including noise and nuisance investigation, housing standards, public health, and community safety.

The successful applicant will provide leadership and management on housing standards and public health related matters, directly managing a team of two professionals, and assisting in the matrix management of a further two staff.

This is a fast-paced environment, with a focus on outcomes for residents, with a highly varied workload, reflecting the mixed urban and rural character of the County.

The post holder will provide leadership and direct supervision for their team, and must therefore have a strong professional background in housing standards investigation.

Experience of noise and nuisance would be desirable, as would previous management experience, although applications are welcomed from suitably qualified Environmental Health Officers.

A strong commitment to staff development is essential, as is the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and undertake project work.

Requirements:

  • A recognised graduate or post graduate qualification in Environmental Health.
  • Significant experience in the investigation/enforcement of housing standards and the associated legal frameworks.
  • A driving license.
