HVDC Operations Engineer

We are seeking an experienced HVDC Operations Engineer to join our team at SSE, a leading energy company in the UK. As part of our Transmission Pathway to 2030 programme, you will play a critical role in supporting the expansion of our transmission operations business.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with the operation and maintenance of the Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission (SHET) HVDC Caithness Moray Shetland (CMS) multi-terminal network and other FACTS assets, ensuring safe, flexible, and secure power transmission and voltage control.
- Work closely with the HVDC Operations Manager and other stakeholders to assist with the planning and execution of maintenance activities, regular inspections, and fault response/repair of HVDC/FACTS assets.
- Assist with the creation, maintenance, and execution of critical asset repair plans, obsolescence plans, and spares holding strategies, as well as management of Subsea Cable Asset Surveys and Cyber Security maintenance works.
- Assist with the engineering design, installation, and commissioning of upgrade and innovation projects for the CMS HVDC multi-terminal network and other FACTS assets.
- Degree qualified or time served with relevant experience in a relevant engineering area.
- Management experience in the delivery of successful operations and maintenance within a similar role/environment and in managing teams in a utility/engineering environment.
- Experience and understanding of the management of contractors.
- Ability to communicate across all levels with both internal and external stakeholders, paired with effective organization capabilities to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales.
