About the Role

We are seeking an experienced HVDC Operations Engineer to join our team at SSE PLC. As a key member of our Transmission Operations team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and secure operation of our HVDC transmission network.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with and be responsible for aspects of the operation and maintenance of the Scottish Hydro Electric Transmission (SHET) HVDC Caithness Moray Shetland (CMS) multi-terminal network and other FACTS assets.
  • Work closely with the HVDC Operations Manager and other HVDC/AC stakeholders to assist with the planning and execution of maintenance activities, regular inspections, and fault response/repair of HVDC/FACTS assets.
  • Assist the HVDC Operations Manager with, and be responsible for aspects of, the creation, maintenance, and execution of critical asset repair plans, obsolescence plans, and spares holding strategies.
  • Undertake other duties, training, and/or hours of work as may be reasonably required by the HVDC Operations Manager.
Requirements
  • Degree qualified or time served with relevant experience in a relevant engineering area.
  • Management experience in the delivery of successful operations and maintenance within a similar role/environment and in managing teams in a utility/engineering environment.
  • Experience and understanding of the management of contractors.
  • Ability to communicate across all levels with both internal and external stakeholders, paired with effective organization capabilities to deliver quality work to the agreed timescales.
