Clinical Lead in Haematology

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering and further developing an established haematology service for patients living within the catchment area of the Doncaster & Bassetlaw Hospital Trust and surrounding areas.

They will work within a team of six Consultant Haematologists, two Specialty Trainees, one Staff Grade, one IMT doctor and 5 Haematology Cancer Nurse Specialists to provide comprehensive Haematology care to patients.

The post holder will share responsibility for diagnostic services, including the day-to-day supervision of diagnostic tests and interpretation as required.

They will also be responsible for sharing responsibility for professional standards in the laboratory and ensuring compliance with the standards required to satisfy UKAS Ltd.

Additionally, the post holder will share responsibility for the Clinical Haematology Service, including liaison with Clinicians, other hospital staff and General Practitioners, in the diagnosis and management of Haematological disorders.

They will demonstrate a firm commitment to Clinical Governance, including participation in effective Clinical Audit and continuing Medical Education.

The post holder will take joint responsibility for the professional supervision and development of training and non-training grade posts in the department.

They will participate in the system of consultant cover for annual, study and professional leave.

The post holder will be involved in clinical trials, work and co-ordination.

They will ensure mandatory training is up to date and ensure their own practice is up to date, taking responsibility for their own Clinical Professional Development.

Finally, the post holder will comply with all relevant trust policies and procedures.

Requirements
  • MRCP or equivalent
  • Eligibility to be on the GMC specialist register for Haematology
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of clinical experience and competence in all aspects of Haematology
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinions on a range of problems within the specialty
  • Understanding current issues within Haematology and the future direction of the specialty
  • Understanding current issues within the wider NHS
  • Ability to work with and lead others across professions
  • Wide-based experience in Haematology
  • Attendance at a recognised management course
