Job Overview

The role of Sepsis Specialist Clinical Lead is a key position within Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, providing clinical leadership and education to improve patient outcomes.

Main Duties of the Job

The post holder will be instrumental in delivering trust-wide multi-disciplinary teaching, raising awareness of sepsis and ensuring early recognition, assessment, and interventions.

They will also support the corporate delivery of sepsis key performance indicators, driving qualitative, innovative, productive, safe, and evidence-based nursing care.

The Sepsis Specialist Clinical Lead will act as a clinical expert and resource for the multi-disciplinary team, providing ward staff with the necessary knowledge and information to support their patients.

One of their key responsibilities will be to participate actively in the development and improvement of sepsis care to maximise quality of patient care in collaboration with all healthcare professionals and external agencies.

Additionally, they will assist in developing Trust policy to ensure practice meets internal and external healthcare standards.

They will also work collaboratively with Oncology specialist nurses to support improvements in the management of neutropenic sepsis and with Critical Care from a clinical and education perspective as part of the whole deteriorating patient agenda.

Education/ Qualifications

  • Registered practitioner
  • Degree in Nursing or equivalent
  • Teaching qualification
  • Ongoing personal/professional development

Desirable Criteria

  • ILS/APLS qualified
  • Leadership qualification/course

Experience

  • Minimum 2 years in acute setting
  • Awareness of audit within the healthcare setting
  • Exposure to managing change
  • Evidence of teaching experience
  • Project management

  • Sepsis champion role/experience
