London, Greater London, United Kingdom Motorway Full time
About the Role

We're seeking a skilled Machine Learning Scientist to join our team at Motorway, a leading used car marketplace. As a key member of our data science team, you'll be responsible for developing and enhancing our pricing models using Bayesian statistics and machine learning techniques.

Key responsibilities include designing advanced probabilistic models, staying up-to-date with the latest research in Bayesian methods and machine learning, and implementing these ideas to optimize vehicle pricing strategies. You'll also analyze market dynamics, investigate how displayed prices influence seller and buyer behavior, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate models into our platform.

Requirements include a strong background in Bayesian statistics and machine learning, experience with bleeding-edge techniques, and a proven ability to apply complex models at scale. You'll also need strong programming skills in Python, experience with machine learning libraries, and excellent problem-solving abilities.

We offer a competitive salary, stock options, annual learning budget, and a range of benefits, including BUPA health insurance, discounted dental and gym membership, and a pension scheme. If you're passionate about machine learning and eager to make a meaningful impact, we'd love to hear from you.

Key Qualifications:

  • A Ph.D. or Masters degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, or a related field with a strong emphasis on Bayesian methods.
  • Extensive experience with Bayesian optimization and calibrated probabilistic modeling, such as Gaussian Processes.
  • Experience validating and fine-tuning results with AB testing and/or causal inference.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, and experience with machine learning libraries including PyTorch, pandas, scikit-learn, GPTorch, BOTorch, and more.
  • Proven ability to apply complex models at scale, handling large datasets efficiently.
  • Experience in marketplaces, auction theory, or pricing optimization is highly desirable.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a data-driven, result-first mindset.
  • Ability to explain complex models and findings to non-technical stakeholders.
