Underwriting Governance Specialist

Apollo is seeking an Underwriting Governance Specialist to join our team. As an Underwriting Governance Specialist, you will be responsible for the oversight and development of the underwriting control framework for all managed syndicates at Apollo. You will also be responsible for developing and embedding the underwriting governance culture across Apollo and its managed syndicates, ensuring that all regulatory requirements are met.

This role offers great insight into many areas of the business, including Risk, Compliance, and Underwriting Management. Your workload will be varied, including tasks covering underwriting controls, business planning, new business development, and oversight of insurance risk.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of governance tools and processes.
  • Review the effectiveness of processes and controls across underwriting teams to ensure compliance with the underwriting governance framework and recommend improvements where necessary.
  • Identify areas where underwriting governance is not met, provide guidance on deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure underwriting teams understand and adhere to the control framework, including development of relevant communication tools as well as monitoring and reporting tools.
  • Work to become the subject matter expert for Underwriting Leadership as it relates to governance, working closely with Divisional heads, Actives, and CUO.
  • Assist with the annual review, collation, and enhancement of underwriting standards and policies, including class level documentation.
  • Assist with the oversight of the independent review process, including KPI monitoring and associated reporting.
  • Perform sample underwriting file QA checks to ensure accuracy and completeness, including associated reporting and root cause analysis.
  • Ensure understanding of conduct risk and product oversight in relation to underwriting, and work alongside the Compliance team to develop and update approaches on behalf of underwriting.
  • Work with underwriting teams and the Compliance team to ensure Product Oversight is regularly assessed and challenged in line with Apollo's regulatory obligations.
  • Support the Head of Underwriting Governance with management information for Board and Committees.
  • Support strategic underwriting initiatives from an underwriting governance perspective, including the onboarding of new classes of business.
  • Support the Strategic Partner Syndicates team with the onboarding of new syndicates, including assisting with the development, implementation, and ongoing oversight of underwriting governance frameworks for new syndicates and the 'Making it Happen' process for Doing Business at Lloyd's Principle 1.
  • Ability to build trust and effective network of contacts both internally and externally.
  • Ability to manage time, manage projects, and prioritise workload.
