**About the Role**

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scientist to join our team at the Earlham Institute in Norwich, UK.

The successful candidate will spearhead the development of novel experimental and computational approaches to uncover fundamental principles in the assembly, functions, and dynamic behavior of microbial communities associated with plants, algae, and other photosynthetic organisms.

This is a unique opportunity to design and reconstitute synthetic communities in gnotobiotic systems using established microbial culture collections. Using amplicon, shotgun, and transcriptome sequencing, you will be able to track the behavior of these microcosms and study its mechanistic basis by means of genetics and controlled perturbation of environmental parameters.

As part of an international, multi-disciplinary team of scientists, you will contribute to the development of long-term projects and be involved in laboratory management, supervision of students, and project development.

**Essential Requirements**

  • PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, plant science, microbial ecology, or a related discipline
  • Broad understanding of molecular biology techniques and interest in developing and optimizing laboratory protocols
  • Experience with DNA/RNA extraction, sequencing library preparation, and working with microalgae and/or bacterial communities

**Salary and Benefits**

The salary for this role is between £35,300 and £43,750 per annum (SC6 level) or £43,550 to £54,900 per annum (SC5 level), depending on qualifications and experience.
