About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled FPGA Design Engineer to join our talented multi-disciplined team in the Encoder Products Division (EPD) at Renishaw. As a key member of our team, you will contribute to the development of new precision measurement products, working closely with project managers and product managers to deliver designs that meet agreed product specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the development of new precision measurement products, working with project managers and product managers to deliver designs to agreed product specifications.
  • Work within a multi-disciplined team to assist with the optimisation and interaction between Electronic, Mechanical and Software components in all designs, whilst gaining an appreciation of metrology (the science of measurement).
  • Assist in the delivery of designs that meet targets for product performance, quality, cost and timescale and which are suitable for transfer to production, considering design for assembly and test.
  • Understand and comply with the company's new product introduction process, working with cross-functional teams to optimise the release of new designs to production.
  • Keep abreast of current technology and develop innovative processes and design solutions which can be patented by the company.

Requirements

  • Degree in electronic engineering, physics or similar.
  • Working knowledge of VHDL – Ideally including recent experience with Intel (Altera) FPGAs.
  • Expertise in electronic design including high speed, low power circuits and electromagnetic compatibility; capable in both analogue and digital domains.
  • Demonstrable skills and experience with Altium, CR5000 or other ECAD system tools.
  • An understanding of microcontrollers, embedded software and signal processing techniques.

Desirable Requirements

  • Knowledge of C, C++, assembly language or other embedded software languages.
  • Experience of LT SPICE, Matlab, Simulink, VUnit, Python, Aldec ActiveHDL and Intel (Altera) Quartus.
  • Knowledge and experience of safety and reliability standards including IEC61508.
