Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced procurement professional to lead our Operational Purchasing Team within Commercial Services at University Hospitals Dorset. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating and supervising colleagues who undertake operational buying for defined areas within the trust.

The role involves liaising with various colleagues and suppliers to provide a highly professional and responsive buying service that meets operational requirements and supports patient care. A good level of keyboard skills and abilities with applications including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook would be required. Excellent communication skills are essential, and previous experience in NHS working may be advantageous.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a purchasing, supply chain or inventory management environment and will ideally have had experience in leading or supervising a team. They will be able to motivate and work with a busy team, as well as work under pressure and to deadlines.

The salary for this role is around £42,000-£56,000 per annum, depending on experience. The role is a full-time position with a 37.5 hour week. We encourage applicants to consider their match to the person specification details for this role.

Person Specification
  • Qualifications
    • Awareness of contract law principles.
    • Attainment of Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (CIPS) advanced certificate vocational level 3 and/or additionally completed satisfactorily recognised procurement key skills training courses.
  • Essential Criteria
    • Proven experience of working in a purchasing and/or supplies function or can evidence transferable skills.
    • Supplier negotiations.
    • Good keyboard skills with working knowledge of applications including MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
  • Desirable Criteria
    • Experience in supervision of small operational team of people engaged in time critical customer service.
    • Experience of working in a multi-functional service industry or public sector organisation.
    • Management experience.
