Research Coordinator for Clinical Trials

Job Summary

The primary function of this role is to provide comprehensive support to the research team in screening, consenting, and recruiting participants into clinical studies. The ideal candidate will possess initiative, attention to detail, and excellent interpersonal skills.

This position requires a flexible and motivated individual who can work collaboratively as part of the research team on National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) portfolio studies. The successful candidate will have a good understanding of clinical research and relevant legislation after a period of training.

The post holder may be required to work in multiple clinical areas based on research study workload and activity. The main base for the role is in Harrogate Hospital, with the possibility of working in other hospitals, community settings, or at the trust's innovation hub in Knaresborough.

Main Duties

  • Interact professionally with patients and their family members, answering questions about clinical trials within their scope of knowledge and practice.
  • Liaise effectively with consultants, medical staff, and health professionals to ensure smooth trial operations, utilizing persuasive, motivational, or negotiating skills when necessary.
  • Communicate efficiently using computer systems within the trust, including email and Microsoft Teams.
  • Undertake trust training in clinical skills such as venepuncture, specimen handling, and patient observations as required by trial protocols, maintaining competence in these areas.
  • Assist in maintaining investigator site files, essential documentation, and Case Report Forms to ensure they are inspection-ready.
  • Participate in informed consent training, supervised practice, and formal assessment of competency, maintaining own competence in receiving consent and retraining as needed.
