About the Role

Bloomsbury Publishing Plc is seeking a highly skilled Commissioning Editor to join their Methuen Drama team. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for commissioning and managing play publications, working closely with the Senior Publisher.

Key Responsibilities
  • Commission new plays and maintain a large backlist of prestigious writers
  • Read and respond to manuscripts in a timely manner
  • Liaise with authors, theatres, agents, and internal departments
  • Negotiate contracts with agents and authors, and special sales deals with theatres
  • Oversee new titles through the production process, on time and to budget
  • Maintain accurate copy and information on internal systems
  • Represent Methuen Drama at press nights and launch events
  • Assist the Drama Online team with editorial queries
Requirements
  • Demonstrable knowledge and passion for contemporary theatre
  • Experience within the publishing industry or related skills in licensing, estate management, or work within a literary agent
  • Understanding of the theatre industry, specifically in relation to plays and drama
  • Exceptional organisational skills
  • Experience of project management and juggling workload
  • Flexibility and a 'can-do' attitude
  • Exceptional editorial skills with an eye for detail
