A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join BEAR Scotland's South East Operations team as a Highway Maintenance Operative.

The South East Trunk Road Unit spans 506km through some of the busiest sections of the country, from central Scotland to the Scottish Borders.

The role involves carrying out various road maintenance operations, including the erection and removal of temporary signs and barriers, hot material patching, drainage works, and operation of power tools and small plant.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of an LGV Class 2 Licence (HGV2) and be prepared to participate in the winter and emergency response service on a standby rota basis.

This is a full-time role with a competitive salary, pension, and life assurance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Erect and remove temporary signs and barriers
  • Carry out hot material patching
  • Perform drainage works, excavation, pipe laying, and kerb laying
  • Install and fix temporary and permanent road furniture
  • Operate power tools and small plant
  • Drive vehicles with simple attachments
  • Prepare written returns and provide support for specialist roadworkers

Requirements:

  • Physically fit for working in sometimes arduous conditions
  • Experience of using small plant
  • Full UK driving license preferably at LGV Class C level
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and problem-solve
  • Flexible to working practices and able to cope with change
