Job Overview

The Commonwealth of Virginia seeks a skilled Emergency Planning Specialist to join our team in the Western Tidewater District. This role plays a vital part in ensuring the district's preparedness and response to public health emergencies.

Key Responsibilities

This position involves:

  • Developing, revising, updating, maintaining, and exercising the district's All Hazards Emergency Response Plan, with a focus on bioterrorism response, communicable disease, and other public health emergencies;
  • Creating and maintaining the district Continuity Plan and Communication Plan to equip staff with tactical communication devices;
  • Ensuring the development and maintenance of up-to-date, adequate plans for receiving and distributing the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS);
Requirements and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Considerable knowledge of and experience in planning and policy development and implementation, program evaluation, and coalition building;
  • Experience developing and exercising emergency response plans;
  • A comprehensive knowledge of and experience working within the community environment with emergency preparedness and response resources and methods;
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in Public Health, Public Administration, Emergency Management, or equivalent experience is highly desirable. Additionally, knowledge of public health principles, especially bioterrorism, completion of FEMA or HSEEP training, and experience working with diverse groups and the general public are valuable assets.

Compensation and Benefits

This position offers an estimated salary range of $60,000 - $80,000 annually, commensurate with experience. As a state employee, you will be eligible for excellent benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, as well as retirement savings options.
