Job Title: Electrical Installation Technician

Grwp Llandrillo Menai is a leading educational institution in North Wales, dedicated to providing high-quality education and training to its students. We are seeking an experienced Electrical Installation Technician to join our team.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Manage and maintain stock materials and equipment, ensuring they are available for practical sessions with learners.
  • Work closely with lecturing staff to ensure that materials and equipment meet the quality requirements of the department.
  • Assist learners in selecting suitable components and items for assessments, projects, and competitions.
  • Isolate or quarantine faulty or damaged equipment and make good or order external services to repair it.
  • Check the operation and safety of equipment before commissioning and ensure it meets regulatory standards.
  • Prepare materials, equipment, and resources for learners' use as requested by tutors, lecturers, and instructors.
  • Work with employers to develop industry-specific training rigs as required.
  • Implement changes to workshop layout, facilities, and equipment with the Programme Manager and relevant staff.
  • Support tutors, lecturers, and instructors in preparing learning rigs and ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Ensure workshops, tools, equipment, and materials comply with safety requirements and conduct regular risk assessments.
  • Liaise with the H&S Officer regarding reporting and recording of workshop incidents and providing general health and safety advice.
  • Support the development and continued compliance of health and safety procedures with tutors, lecturers, and instructors.
  • Assume responsibility for the security of workshop areas allocated to this role.
  • Prepare materials for students to use during training and assessment, assisting tutors, lecturers, instructors, and learners with practical activities.
  • Prepare assessment areas and equipment for student assessment as required.
  • Dismantle practical exercises and salvage material for reuse.
  • Carry out routine servicing and maintenance of portable power and static machines, reporting any defects to tutors, lecturers, and instructors.
  • Service and maintain hand tools and equipment to ensure effective use.
  • Maintain up-to-date stock records of tools, equipment, and consumables and order new as required by lecturers, tutors, and instructors.
  • Maintain documentation recording and monitoring regarding workshop practices, including risk assessments and incidents.
  • Maintain good housekeeping practice within the areas of responsibility, ensuring a clean and safe working environment for all students, staff, and visitors.
  • Work with other staff to ensure student discipline is maintained.
  • Participate in meetings, staff development, and other staff events as requested by the Programme Area Manager.
  • Supervise the daily schedule of apprentice technicians to support them in achieving their required competencies.
  • Liaise with the Programme Manager on a regular basis regarding the implementation and monitoring of practices of equipment and apparatus within workshops.
  • Perform workshop risk assessments for any new equipment and changing workshop usage and practices.
  • Perform any other duties reasonably requested by the Programme Area Manager.
