Main Responsibilities- Manage and maintain stock materials and equipment, ensuring timely delivery and quality standards are met.
- Collaborate with lecturing staff to provide learners with suitable components and items for assessments, projects, and competitions.
- Isolate and quarantine faulty equipment, and arrange for repairs or replacement as necessary.
- Conduct regular safety checks on equipment and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
- Prepare materials, equipment, and resources for learner use, as requested by tutors, lecturers, and instructors.
- Develop industry-specific training rigs in collaboration with employers.
- Implement changes to workshop layout, facilities, and equipment, in consultation with the Programme Manager and relevant staff.
- Support tutors, lecturers, and instructors in preparing learning rigs and ensuring compliance with health and safety procedures.
- Ensure workshops, tools, equipment, and materials meet safety requirements and undergo regular risk assessments.
- Liaise with the H&S Officer to report and record workshop incidents, and provide general health and safety advice.
- Support the development and maintenance of health and safety procedures, and assume responsibility for the security of allocated workshop areas.
- Prepare materials for students to use during training and assessment, and assist tutors, lecturers, instructors, and learners with practical activities.
- Prepare assessment areas and equipment for student assessment, as required.
- Dismantle practical exercises and salvage materials for reuse.
- Perform routine servicing and maintenance of portable power and static machines, and report any defects to tutors, lecturers, and instructors.
- Service and maintain hand tools and equipment to ensure effective use.
- Maintain up-to-date stock records of tools, equipment, and consumables, and order new items as required.
- Maintain documentation recording and monitoring workshop practices, including risk assessments and incidents.
- Maintain good housekeeping practices within allocated areas, ensuring a clean and safe working environment for all students, staff, and visitors.
- Work with other staff to maintain student discipline.
- Participate in meetings, staff development, and other events as requested by the Programme Area Manager.
- Supervise the daily schedule of apprentice technicians to support them in achieving their required competencies.
- Liaise with the Programme Manager on a regular basis regarding the implementation and monitoring of equipment and apparatus within workshops.
- Perform workshop risk assessments for new equipment and changing workshop usage and practices.
- Perform any other duties reasonably requested by the Programme Area Manager.
