**Job purpose**

Coleg Menai Engineering is a forward thinking department offering specialist courses in a range of Engineering disciplines including mechanical and electrical. Teaching and learning takes place with industry standard equipment and in modern facilities, including a recently built £15m STEM building.

Lead the team of Assessor / Instructors within the WBL Programme Area to support, train and assess learners in a work-based environment to achieve qualifications in relevant vocational areas. The Team Leader / Assessor will ensure that the service provided to the learner is:

- Of the highest possible quality
- Providing value for money
- Meeting the needs of the employer and the students under training
- Reflecting the mission, values and aims of the Grŵp.

**Main duties and responsibilities**

**A: Assessing Learners’ Needs**
- Provide prospective students/trainees and employers with appropriate advice and guidance.
- Assess learners’ previous learning experiences and achievements in relation to the identified learning programme.
- Conduct interviews with prospective students and administer any necessary selection tests.
- Undertake initial assessments and identify any special learning or support needs.
- Liaise with the relevant Team Leader in regard to student activities (enrolment, training plans, framework, etc).
- Ensure learners are enrolled in Grŵp if they have not already been enrolled through the Training Unit.
- Ensure learners are registered with all relevant awarding bodies.
- Carry out the necessary induction with all learners for their training programmes.

**B**:Monitor and Support Learner Achievements**
- Monitor and support learners/trainees to achieve their qualifications through individual training plans.
- Ensure that all necessary reviews are completed within required timescales.
- Provide feedback to Team Leader and employers on the progress of learners/trainees.
- Liaise with relevant Grŵp staff to support the development and delivery of qualifications in the workplace.
- Ensure that all learners/trainees are supported, and produce evidence in the language of their choice.
- Ensure that basic skills, Essential Skills and all other Framework elements are embedded into learning programmes as required.
- Select a range of learning methods to suit individual learners/trainees.
- Provide underpinning knowledge support if identified within the Individual’s Learning Plan

**C: Assessing the outcomes of learning and learners’ achievements**
- Carry out appropriate assessment strategies for learning programmes in line with awarding body requirements and communicate these to learners.
- Use a range of appropriate assessment methods to conduct fair and reliable assessments.
- Ensure that learners are provided with clear and constructive written and oral feedback within an appropriate timescale.
- Maintain assessment records and provide information to relevant stakeholders e.g. colleagues, parents, employers, awarding bodies.
- Co-ordinate all information regarding learners’ progress from the assessor team.

**D: Maintain Quality Systems**
- Working with the Programme Area Manager, establish realistic targets for enrolment, retention and achievement for all programmes.
- Ensure that all recording systems are maintained e.g. training plans and reviews, programme files, registers and /or Grŵp tracking system, minutes of meetings, review and evaluation documents etc.
- Ensure Internal Verification procedures are followed as required by Grŵp systems.
- Monitor the general quality of programmes and ensure steps are taken to bring about continuous improvement.
- Carry out annual review of all programmes and complete Grŵp annual review and evaluation documentation.
- Contribute to the Grŵp Annual Self-Assessment system.
- Advise the Programme Manager on changes and improvements required within programmes
- Liaise with the IQAs to ensure compliance with group and awarding body IQA procedures.
- Liaise with Programme Manager to ensure Internal and External Quality Assurance processes are correctly carried out.
- Working with the Programme Area Manager monitor programme performance against set targets and take steps to address any shortcomings.
- Ensure assessors complete the required number of health and safety monitoring visits for every learner annually and that the details are passed to the Training Unit.

**E: Provide Team Leadership**
- Provide team members with relevant information from internal and external sources
- Support the Programme Manager to develop team members’ personal and professional skills
- Identify personal development needs and undertake continuous professional development in line with the demands of the pos
