About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Database Systems Lead to join our IT Support team at Nationwide Building Society. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in supporting and optimizing our existing database systems, as well as shaping our team's strategy and direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and contribute to all aspects of database administration, including patching, backups, support, and performance tuning.
  • Mentor and develop the skills of junior technical staff, with a view to shifting 2nd line support to our 24x7 operations team.
  • Participate in an out-of-hours on-call support rota.
  • Troubleshoot issues using Windows event logs, SQL logs, and cluster logs.
  • Support Windows AG and FCI clustering, and have experience with database audit and security processes.
  • Work within an ITIL framework and have experience with performance tuning using query plans, indexing, and database design.
  • Review and approve SQL design documentation.
  • Have experience with SSIS and SSRS, and be comfortable with clear, precise language that our customers and members can understand.
