About the Role

The Manufacturing Technology Centre is seeking an experienced and skilled Advanced Research Engineer to join their Laser Processing Team based in Coventry.

Main Responsibilities

  1. Independently deliver technical projects and serve as the Technical Lead for smaller projects, as needed, ensuring that project work consistently meets or exceeds agreed-upon customer requirements, adhering to set budgets and timelines.
  2. Conduct innovative research on laser-based manufacturing and work on applied industrial projects, demonstrating the ability to bridge research and industrial application, and contribute to identifying and developing new and innovative laser-based technologies for implementation within the MTC, customer sites, or industrial member premises.
  3. Engage in all aspects of the project life cycle, including concept generation, proposal writing, and project delivery, with a focus on delivering high-quality results and meeting customer needs.

Person Specification

  1. Degree or PhD level qualification in engineering, technology, or science, with a strong background in laser processing and manufacturing.
  2. Proficiency in report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  3. Committed to working collaboratively and building effective networks, with a strong focus on teamwork and collaboration.
  4. Hands-on, pragmatic problem-solving skills, with a willingness to participate in practical aspects of the project when necessary, and a strong ability to work independently and within a team to meet deadlines, budgets, and quality standards.
  5. Self-motivated and proactive, with a strong ability to work in environments requiring adherence to processes and policies that ensure customer confidentiality.
