Opportunity Summary

AECOM is seeking a skilled Technical Director to lead infrastructure planning projects across the UK, with a focus on DCO projects. This role offers a unique opportunity to work with a market-leading team and contribute to the delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

About the Role

This position involves technical leadership, people development, governance, commercial support, and bid management. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical direction, mentoring junior staff, acting as lead verifier on major design projects, and supporting the commercial and technical development of bids. Additionally, this role requires experience in leading development consents applications for large infrastructure projects, establishing client relationships, developing business strategies, and working within a commercial environment.

About Our Team

AECOM's Town Planning team plays a key role in delivering major infrastructure and development projects. As a top ten UK planning consultancy, we employ over 70 Chartered or Licentiate Planners. Our team is passionate about delivering planning to support complex projects and is committed to quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

Your Skills and Experience

We are looking for an experienced professional with a relevant degree and full Chartered Membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI). Key skills and qualifications include substantial experience in leading development consents applications, established client relationships, experience in developing and implementing business strategies, and high-level commitment to quality. Additionally, the successful candidate should have experience working within a commercial environment, leading successful multi-disciplinary bids and projects, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. A strong track record of project delivery, commercial awareness, and a deep understanding of technical risks and opportunities are essential for this role.
