Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality sexual health services to patients, including:

  1. Undertaking comprehensive sexual health assessments and providing treatment and advice to patients with a range of genital health issues.
  2. Initiating and reviewing contraception medication, including emergency contraception, and inserting and removing sub-dermal contraceptive implants.
  3. Undertaking genital examinations, testing, and treatment of asymptomatic and symptomatic patients, and initiating and reviewing treatment for uncomplicated STIs and genital conditions.
  4. Providing specialist advice and support in relation to pregnancy decision making, onward referral into services, and providing information regarding a full range of contraception and STI/genital conditions.
  5. Delivering a highly specialist sexual health outreach service to extremely vulnerable and hard-to-reach patients, advocating for patients and providing complex and sensitive information.
  6. Promoting and supporting best practice in sex and relationships education to young people, and delivering sexual health promotion across a range of venues.
  7. Providing condoms, lubricant, and safer sex supplies through the c-card scheme for 13-25 year olds, working within relevant professional and legal frameworks.
  8. Ensuring a high standard of record keeping and monitoring data collection, and acting as a line manager for identified staff as required.
  9. Supporting the delivery of all areas of the sexual health specification as demand dictates.

The post holder will work within the County Durham & Darlington NHS Foundation Trust and will be required to maintain personal and professional standards to ensure professional credibility.
