Job Title: Head of Research and Development Design Lead

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Research and Development Design Lead to join our team at Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. As a key member of our Research and Development department, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and taking direct line management of two team leaders.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of our in-house Research and Development capability, ensuring it meets the demands of our Engineering Group.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver lap time improvements to the track.
  • Develop and implement new testing technologies and infrastructure.
  • Design interfaces between our test rigs and car hardware to enable homologation, safety demonstration, reliability prove-out, and performance testing.
  • Lead Proof of Concept programmes to showcase applications ready for the design teams to incorporate into development of car systems.

Requirements:

  • Engineering or physics degree, or equivalent qualification(s).
  • Mechanical design experience to a level where you can approve the output of a design team on safety-critical components.
  • Demonstrable experience of working in a high-performance engineering environment.
  • Ability to collaborate and negotiate to deliver results across different departments.
  • Proven ability to take the initiative.
