SEN HLTA (Primary) Job Description

GSL Education is seeking a dedicated SEN (Special Educational Needs) Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join a welcoming Primary School in Gateshead.

This is an exciting opportunity to work with students, helping them achieve their potential and thrive in their learning environment. As a SEN Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA), you will be a key member of the support team, making a real difference every day.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide tailored support to students with special educational needs.
  • Assist the SENCO and teaching staff in delivering educational plans.
  • Lead small group interventions and 1:1 support sessions.
  • Help maintain a positive, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment.
  • Support students' personal and emotional development.
  • Work closely with teachers to adapt lessons for SEN students.
  • Monitor student progress and provide feedback to staff and parents.
  • Maintain high standards of safeguarding and child protection.
Requirements:
  • Previous experience working as a SEN HLTA or in a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of SEN, including Autism, ADHD, and Social, Emotional, & Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A relevant HLTA qualification or equivalent experience is desirable.
  • A passion for working with young people and supporting their development.
  • Commitment to ensuring the well-being of all students.
  • Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one).
