Manchester, United Kingdom The University of Manchester Full time
About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team at The University of Manchester. The successful candidate will contribute to the Modelling workstream, focusing on the prediction of tidal stream turbine array performance, accounting for wakes. This will involve high-fidelity modelling of complex unsteady flows representative of tidal stream sites and interaction with tidal stream turbine arrays.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyse complex flows across tidal stream sites and their interaction with large turbine arrays to predict array power performance and turbine design loading.
  • Extend and apply high-fidelity numerical models, analyse site-specific measurement data, and develop engineering models for array performance.
  • Undertake simulations for representative sites and array layouts to facilitate model evaluation relative to data from measurement campaigns.
  • Develop boundary conditions to predict spatially varying flows across the site area and apply load prediction models to inform siting and turbine design within arrays.
What We Offer
  • A competitive salary and benefits package.
  • The opportunity to work with a talented team of researchers and contribute to cutting-edge projects.
  • Access to state-of-the-art facilities and resources.
  • Professional development opportunities and support for career advancement.
Requirements

We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual with a strong background in modelling and simulation. The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field and experience in high-fidelity numerical modelling, data analysis, and engineering model development. Excellent communication and teamwork skills are essential.
