Job Summary

The University of Manchester is seeking a highly skilled Research Associate to join our team in the field of modelling and control of onshore wave energy converters. As a Research Associate, you will be responsible for developing and implementing control-oriented models, designing controllers, and conducting real-time control experiments using hardware-in-the-loop testing.

About the Role

This is an 18-month post that requires a strong background in control system design, modelling, and simulation. You will work closely with our team of researchers and industry partners to develop innovative solutions for maximising power capture and integrating onshore wave energy converters into standalone microgrids.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement control-oriented models for onshore wave energy converters
  • Design and implement controllers for real-time control experiments
  • Conduct hardware-in-the-loop testing and validation of control systems
  • Collaborate with industry partners to develop and implement innovative solutions
  • Communicate research findings and results to the team and stakeholders

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need a PhD in a relevant field, such as control systems, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering. You will also need relevant experience in control system design, modelling, and simulation, as well as strong communication and collaboration skills.
