Job Description

The ideal candidate will have strong leadership skills and be able to develop and participate in ward-based pharmacy services. The post holder will support the delivery of high-quality pharmacy services, under the direction of the line manager. This includes assessing ward-based competencies and ensuring standardisation of activities.

The successful candidate will provide a technical link between wards and the pharmacy team, taking the lead in assessing and maintaining patient's own drugs and one-stop dispensing systems. They will also support with discharge planning and patient counselling.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Maintain and develop high-quality, consistent, patient-focused pharmacy services to wards in conjunction with clinical and patient services staff.
  • Be the technical link person between wards and pharmacy, and manage calls and requests as appropriate for the pharmacy team via the Wi-Fi phones.
  • Manage and support the safe, accurate and timely supply of medicines to wards and clinics, and other areas as required, by managing the medication supply chain in conjunction with Pharmacy team members, Stores and Distribution staff.
  • Adequate knowledge about quality standards and performance indicators for service developments implemented.
  • Cover or participate in dispensary services, as necessary. Cover other specialties, as and when necessary, as required by the Clinical Services team, to the same standard, in accordance with relevant policies and procedures.
  • Support the Pharmacy Clinical Services team in the development of the medicines management pharmacy technician service.
  • Accurately check clinically screened dispensed prescriptions, according to policy.
