Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Lead Pharmacist to join our team at the University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a well-established team of pharmacy professionals to deliver, develop and manage the pharmacy service for Renal, Respiratory and Cardiovascular services.

The ideal candidate will have a strong clinical background, excellent leadership and management skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality patient care. They will be responsible for overseeing the provision of a highly specialised pharmacy service, providing expert clinical advice, and integrating with relevant clinical teams to ensure efficient transfer of clinical and medicines management issues.

Main Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management to the pharmacy team to deliver high-quality patient care.
  • Develop and implement strategies to improve the pharmacy service, including the use of electronic prescribing systems.
  • Provide expert clinical advice to nursing and medical staff, and integrate with relevant clinical teams to ensure efficient transfer of clinical and medicines management issues.
  • Oversee the provision of training and education to pharmacy staff, including undergraduate placements, trainee pharmacists, and diploma students.
  • Take overarching responsibility for all pharmacy research and audit projects within the service.

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A strong clinical background, with a postgraduate clinical qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • Membership of a professional organisation, such as the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS), UK Clinical Pharmacy Association (UKCPA), or British Oncology Pharmacy Association (BOPA).
  • Experience of delivering education and training at postgraduate level.
  • Expert clinical knowledge and skills relevant to the area of practice.
