Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Microbiologist Scientist to support the growth and development of our environmental water surveillance activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining our existing portfolio of water testing and environmental surveillance in hospitals, as well as acquiring new business and diagnostic methodologies.
Main Duties of the Job
- Support the existing portfolio of environmental testing, including water surveillance and quality assurance microbiology.
- Develop and acquire new projects and testing requirements related to environmental surveillance.
- Maintain and recover from cryo-storage of existing pathogen isolates from clinical and environmental libraries.
- Develop in-house methods and optimize new techniques.
- Support the adoption of technologies, including bespoke culture, molecular PCR, and whole genome sequencing.
- Lead and take responsibility of monthly departmental meetings to support senior management with on-going progress, non-conformities, audits, SOP progress, training and development needs of the business.
- Write departmental SOPs.
- Write academic papers and/or generate data to support grant applications.
- Disseminate findings in local or international conferences or meetings.
- Complete final results forms.
- Support the specific technical and clerical duties working with senior scientists as part of a team, to facilitate the smooth running of the service.
