About the Role

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Senior Microbiologist and Laboratory Manager to lead our team in the Microbiology Department. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional to join one of London's most prestigious healthcare institutions.

Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the Microbiology Department, ensuring compliance with UKAS accreditation standards and other relevant regulatory frameworks. They will also oversee the processing and analysis of clinical samples, manage department budgets, procurement, and inventory control.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage the Microbiology Department, including staff management and training.
  • Ensure compliance with UKAS accreditation standards and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Oversee the processing and analysis of clinical samples to provide accurate and timely diagnostic results.
  • Manage department budgets, procurement, and inventory control.
  • Implement new technologies and methodologies to improve diagnostic capabilities and laboratory efficiency.
Requirements
  • HCPC registration as a Biomedical Scientist or equivalent.
  • A degree in Microbiology or a related field (MSc or equivalent).
  • Significant experience in a microbiology laboratory, with a managerial or leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical microbiology and laboratory accreditation standards (e.g., UKAS).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Well-developed communication, organisational, and leadership skills.
