Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner to join our team in the Paediatric Emergency Department at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for autonomously assessing and treating paediatric patients in the Paediatric Emergency Department, determining a clinical diagnosis, treatment, and appropriate discharge within their professional boundaries and in line with training, skills, and competencies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Autonomously seeing and treating children presenting to the emergency department with illness and/or injuries
  • Taking a comprehensive history from the presenting patient and/or accompanying carer/relative as appropriate
  • Undertaking a complete physical examination relevant to the presenting complaint
  • Formulating a differential diagnosis and ordering further appropriate investigations as required
  • Interpreting results of investigations, including blood tests and x-rays
  • Working towards a prescribing qualification or prescribing medication for patients as needed in line with the Trust's prescribing guidelines
  • Discharging patients home with a complete plan of care and ensuring safety net information is given and understood
  • Referencing patients on for further investigations/opinion as needed and liaising with the Emergency Department and/or specialty teams within Croydon Health Care as required

Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of independently discharging minor illnesses and injuries
  • Experience of working in a Paediatric ED/Paediatric Critical Care Environment
  • Evidence of teaching and mentoring junior staff
  • Evidence of undertaking clinical audits
  • Evidence of up-to-date knowledge of DOH and NICE guidelines
  • Awareness of current clinical and managerial trends and issues relating to paediatric nursing and safeguarding
