Southampton, Southampton, United Kingdom Leonardo SpA Full time

Are you a motivated individual looking to start your career in manufacturing engineering? We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in Southampton, supporting the manufacture of infra-red detector assemblies.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge in a cutting-edge environment, working on a diverse range of processes, hands-on and desk-based activities. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for training operatives to perform processes correctly, monitoring yields, defects & process times, investigating defects (DFRs) and yield issues relating to manufacturing processes, defining and carrying out re-work processes where required, and suggesting and implementing process improvements in areas of responsibility.

You will also have the opportunity to work on new capital equipment projects, run routine TPM engineering tasks/process checks as required, write process instructions, monitor the performance of equipment including SPC, and give input to new product introduction initiatives.

We are looking for someone with a combined engineering skillset, who is capable of supporting manufacturing - learning to solve hands-on problems with high-value components, manufacturing processes and equipment - but is also adept at office based data analysis, documentation and communication.

A minimum of a 2:2 Bachelors/Integrated Master's degree, or a higher degree, such as a MSc or PhD, in Manufacturing, Mechanical Engineering or a similar field is ideal, but other STEM degrees will be considered when combined with relevant skills and interests. Previous manufacturing related experience and knowledge of six-sigma/lean improvement techniques would be an advantage.

The salary for this role is approximately £33,000 per annum, plus a welcome bonus and a generous Temporary Accommodation Allowance if you move more than 40 miles away from home for the role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Train operatives to perform processes correctly
  • Monitor yields, defects & process times
  • Investigate defects (DFRs) and yield issues relating to manufacturing processes
  • Define and carry out re-work processes where required
  • Suggest and implement process improvements in areas of responsibility
  • Work on new capital equipment projects
  • Run routine TPM engineering tasks/process checks as required
  • Write process instructions
  • Monitor the performance of equipment including SPC
  • Give input to new product introduction initiatives
