Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Firearms and Explosives Licensing Officer to join our team at Sussex Police. As a key member of our operations command, you will be responsible for assessing suitability for firearms and explosives licenses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments of applicants or licence holders to determine suitability for firearms and explosives licenses.
  • Discuss physical and mental health aspects with applicants or licence holders.
  • Interview individuals who may assist in informing suitability, such as partners, family members, or referees.
  • Generate recommendations about suitability and identified risks.
  • Prepare written reports and case files to ensure an audit trail.
  • Attend court appeals.
  • Assess security arrangements for firearms and explosives.

Requirements

  • Educated to A level standard or equivalent vocational qualification.
  • Ability to organise and prioritise work.
  • Ability to work independently, travel, and adopt a flexible approach to achieve optimum efficiency.
  • High standards of written and verbal communication.
  • Working knowledge of assessing threat and risks.
  • Physically capable of undertaking security inspections in confined and difficult places.
  • Must be able to drive a motor vehicle.
