Job Title: Specialist Adult Community Speech Therapist

About the Role

The Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team in South Devon has an exciting opportunity for a motivated and dynamic Band 6 Therapist to join our friendly and supportive team. We are offering up to full-time hours, but would also welcome applications for part-time hours.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work in a small team of Adult Learning Disability speech and language therapists to provide specialist assessment, diagnosis, and treatment services to adults with learning disabilities.
  2. Independently manage a caseload of clients with learning disabilities, who may have complex communication needs, and/or eating and drinking difficulties (dysphagia and choking).
  3. Provide training and support to staff teams, carers, families, and colleagues.
  4. Supervise and support more junior speech and language therapists, assistants, and students.
Person Specification

We are looking for a candidate with:

  1. A degree in speech and language therapy (or equivalent).
  2. Current professional registration with HCPC and Registered Member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists /RCSLT).
  3. Evidence of relevant CPD/ongoing education.
  4. Clinical experience in a range of core areas such as learning disability, dysphagia, Intensive Interaction, autism, sensory impairment, dementia, and AAC using a person-centred approach.
  5. Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary community setting.
  6. Ability to work alone and as an integral part of a team.
  7. Interest and passion to work with people with learning disabilities.
  8. Understanding the health needs of people with a learning disability.
