Class Teacher

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Class Teacher to join our team at York Steiner School. As a Class Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a nurturing and purposeful learning environment that fosters the healthy development of our students.
Key Responsibilities:- Establish a strong class dynamic and promote good classroom habits and routines.
- Develop a deep understanding of each child's strengths and weaknesses and structure work accordingly.
- Provide a balanced curriculum at a pace suitable to the children's age and development, based on an understanding of Waldorf pedagogy and child development.
- Maintain good discipline and develop children's confidence to ensure effective learning can take place.
- Work collaboratively with classroom assistants, subject teachers, and learning support staff.
- Develop children's critical thinking and problem-solving skills, perseverance, academic curiosity, and independent study and research habits.
- Engage in pedagogical study and discussion with colleagues and take a proactive approach to addressing areas of concern or need.
- Share subject knowledge with other teachers and classes where relevant.
- Strive to be a reflective practitioner and participate actively in the appraisal process.
- Take overall responsibility for the progress of the pupils, including feedback, assessment, and monitoring.
- Organise regular class and one-to-one parents' evenings.
- Complete detailed end-of-year reports.
- Provide necessary updates to parents as and when appropriate.
- Support and participate in the enrolment process for new pupils.
- Coordinate the purchase of materials for the class.
- Organise class trips, events, and festivals.
- Provide cover for absent colleagues when needed.
- Maintain the classroom environment to a high standard and observe Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Participate in staff meetings where relevant.
- Operate within the school's policies and procedures, including safeguarding.
- Attend statutory and non-statutory training courses as required.
