Key Responsibilities:
  • Establish good classroom habits and routines, promoting a positive class dynamic.
  • Nurture the healthy development of your students' physical, social, emotional, and intellectual capacities.
  • Provide a balanced curriculum, tailored to the children's age and development, based on an understanding of Waldorf pedagogy and child development.
  • Maintain good discipline, holding boundaries and developing children's confidence to ensure effective learning.
  • Work collaboratively with classroom assistants, subject teachers, and learning support staff.
  • Develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and academic curiosity in your students.
  • Engage in pedagogical study, discussion, and child observation with colleagues.
  • Share subject knowledge with other teachers and classes, as relevant.
  • Strive to be a reflective practitioner, participating actively in the appraisal process.

Monitoring Progress and Parent Communication:
  • Take overall responsibility for the progress of your students, including feedback, assessment, and monitoring.
  • Organise regular class and one-to-one parents' evenings.
  • Complete detailed end-of-year reports.
  • Provide necessary updates to parents, as required.
  • Support and participate in the enrolment process for new pupils.

Other Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the purchase of materials for the class.
  • Organise class trips, events, and festivals.
  • Provide cover for absent colleagues, as needed.

Compliance:
  • Maintain the classroom environment to a high standard, observing Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in staff meetings, as relevant.
  • Operate within the school's policies and procedures, including safeguarding.
  • Attend statutory and non-statutory training courses, as required.

Person Specification:
  • Teacher Qualification (PGCE/QTS or Steiner Waldorf training).
  • Degree-level qualification.
  • Understanding of Steiner Waldorf Education and the Ethos of York Steiner School.
  • At least two years teaching experience.
  • IT skills, including Microsoft Office and G Suite.
  • Maths and English GCSE.
