Commercial Underwriter Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Commercial Underwriter to join our team at Massenhove Recruitment. As a Commercial Underwriter, you will be responsible for underwriting a high volume of commercial combined/SME enquiries, with an average premium of circa £3,000 and potential to write up to £100,000.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Interpret policy/endorsement wordings and have experience in writing own or modifying existing wordings.
  • Underwrite commercial combined/SME enquiries, meeting and exceeding brokers' service levels and expectations.
  • Identify cover and hazards that will impact on the acceptance, pricing, or terms applicable to a risk.
  • Understand the impact of claims and risk management on the performance of a case and demonstrate an ability to review taking these factors into account.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key trading partners to maximize influence.
  • Support the development and operation of sales campaigns to drive the acquisition of profitable business.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of 3 years' commercial underwriting experience.
  • Preferable Cert CII or part qualified.
  • Experience of determining policy terms and calculating premiums in line with both in-house authority limits and insurer binding authority agreements.
  • Demonstrate your contribution to loss ratio control by effectively adhering to Company's underwriting controls.
