SEMH Teacher Opportunity

In the Wandsworth area, a local authority-run Special Educational Needs School is seeking an exceptional SEMH teacher to join their team for 2025.

About the Role

We are looking for a compassionate, professional, and dedicated SEMH teacher who can make a real difference in the lives of children. The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a nurturing and inclusive classroom working with students who cannot be in mainstream school. This rewarding role involves helping develop individualised learning plans that promote engagement, independence, social skills, literacy, and numeracy skills. In this position, you will have the opportunity to focus on and develop one subject for students across KS1 and KS2.

The successful applicant will be joining a dedicated SEMH school in Wandsworth that specialises in supporting pupils with social, emotional, and mental health issues. Our school provides a range of unique enabling environments, both indoor and outdoor, which are used to maximise learning opportunities and meet pupils' specific needs. This allows our students to gain independence and life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Develop and implement personalised educational programs that cater to the diverse needs of students.
  2. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including educational psychologists, to ensure comprehensive support.
  3. Foster a positive and supportive classroom atmosphere that encourages student growth and development.
  4. Monitor and assess student progress, adapting approaches as needed to ensure optimal outcomes.
  5. Engage with parents and caregivers to support student development at home and in school.
  6. Work with and lead a support team within the classroom to provide cohesive support to students.

Requirements

  1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  2. Experience working with students who cannot be in mainstream school is essential.
  3. Experience working in a special needs education setting is preferred but not necessary.
  4. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are crucial for success in this role.
