Librarian (Music)

Salary:£ 40,000 - 50,000 per annum

The Role

We are seeking a skilled Library Music Specialist to join our team at Hampshire County Council. As a key member of our library staff, you will play a vital role in enriching the lives of children, young people, musicians and music lovers across our diverse communities.

Hampshire boasts one of the UK's largest public music libraries, offering a wide range of resources, including sheet music, music books, periodicals, and archive materials. Our specialist service also provides free-to-use digital pianos and ukuleles for hire.

This is a frontline role that requires evening and weekend working to maintain the delivery of the service across our opening hours. You will line manage a small team of library officers and work closely with the council, other librarians, partners, and volunteers to deliver the service.

Your responsibilities will include developing the skills of your team members in handling enquiries from orchestras and other music organisations, delivering a diverse music programme, and giving people access to music, musical instruments, and free performances.

You will also have opportunities to develop our collection and implement new ideas for expanding access to music in our communities, working closely with schools and children's services, as well as organisations such as the Royal College of Music and the Royal Music Academy.

To be successful in this role, you will need to be a qualified librarian or have equivalent experience in libraries, with a commitment to managing library collections and reaching out to work with local communities. Additionally, you should have good knowledge of music and awareness of how to engage colleagues and service users with music and the arts.
