Job Summary

The Adult Critical Care Unit at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a skilled Receptionist to join their team. As a Receptionist in this unit, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of the department.

Main Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate knowledge of computerised patient administrative systems.
  • Complete necessary documentation and input data on PAS for admissions, transfers, deaths and discharges of patients.
  • Check unit bed state and record all patient activity.
  • Check that appropriate consultant has been allocated to each patient and track case notes.
  • Log on to NHS Strategic Tracing Service to accurately trace details of patients general practitioners, dates of birth and other information.
  • Regularly file results slips, investigation reports and nursing documentation in case notes.
  • Communicate with GP surgeries to provide details of admissions and deaths.
  • Organise and apply necessary documentation relative to patients deaths and despatch to appropriate locations.
  • Monitor PAS system several times a day for all patients test results and record these in patients results charts.
  • Liaise with medical secretaries, theatre staff and shift charge to co-ordinate booking and/or cancellation of elective patients.
  • Photocopy medical notes for discharges to other hospitals, where appropriate.
  • Collate & return case notes and X-rays to file as and when required.
  • Maintain stock of medical and nursing documentation and general stationery.

Requirements

  • To be educated to GCSE / O-Level or equivalent standard including English and Maths.
  • Computer literacy including typing skills and experience using Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Customer service skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and use own initiative.
  • Excellent Communication skills.
  • Friendly and approachable.
  • Understand the importance of confidentiality.
  • Exercise judgement and know when to seek advice when dealing with patient enquiries.
  • Calm and well organised.
  • Ability to prioritise own tasks.
  • Fit to perform duties in accordance with JD.
  • Able to manual handle and manoeuvre equipment/loads.
  • Demonstrate a flexible approach towards working Monday to Sunday with daytime hours currently but the potential for this to include cross site cover and different shift patterns.
  • Ability to cope with daily exposure to distressing sights, sounds and situations.
  • Must be able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's values.
