Job Summary



To provide a high-quality, holistic service to babies and families in need of neonatal intensive care, the successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary team. This involves delivering expert clinical care, management, and support to infants and their families, adhering to unit guidelines and protocols.



Main Responsibilities





  • Work independently on the tier 1 rota, under the supervision of a middle-grade neonatal doctor and neonatal consultants, to provide expert clinical care and management for infants and their families admitted to the Neonatal Unit.

  • Carry out assessments of infants on postnatal wards, including first medical examinations, and perform formal discharge examinations to determine whether a baby is fit for discharge.

  • Attend high-risk deliveries to provide stabilisation and safe transfer of newborn infants.

  • Work with the multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individual management and care plans in collaboration with nursing, medical, and other healthcare professionals involved in the care of the neonate.



Non-Clinical Responsibilities





  • Participate in clinical audit, guidelines, education of medical and nursing staff, managerial and other administrative duties.

  • Develop and maintain nursing information systems and ensure written documentation is kept in respect of investigations and incidents.

Requirements



To be successful in this role, you will need to have advanced skills in neonatal care, including the ability to perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, initiate and manage mechanical ventilation, and interpret laboratory investigations. You will also need to be able to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and communicate complex information to parents and other healthcare professionals.



Working Arrangements



This is a full-time role, working 85% clinically within the tier 1 rota, under the supervision of a middle-grade neonatal doctor and neonatal consultants. The remaining 15% of the role will be spent on non-clinical activities, including quality improvements, education, and research.



Location



This role is based at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, with opportunities to work across two sites: Royal Stoke in Stoke-on-Trent and County Hospital in Stafford.
