Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Head of Special Collections and Public Outreach to join our team at SOAS University of London. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the acquisition, processing, and preservation of rare books, manuscripts, and other special materials. They will also develop and implement public outreach programs to engage audiences and promote the university's cultural heritage.

About the Role:

  • Oversee the selection, acquisition, and processing of rare books, manuscripts, and other special materials.
  • Develop and implement public outreach programs, including exhibitions, lectures, and workshops.
  • Collaborate with faculty and departments to integrate special collections into curriculum design and research projects.
  • Foster relationships with external organizations, governments, and communities to promote the university's cultural heritage and engage in collaborative initiatives.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Library Science, Archives, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in special collections management, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Familiarity with digital scholarship and emerging technologies.
