Job Title: Apprentice Cost Consultant

About the Role

This role will be working within our client's Infrastructure - Water South Business unit and based in Reading. The successful candidate will have past experience working within a water environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Preparation of material and sub-contract enquiries including the selection of prospective subcontractors.
  • Attending strategy / opportunity meetings with project team.
  • Visit sites to identify site specific risks.
  • Adjudication and comparison of sub-contractor quotations.
  • Risk management throughout the tender period and preparation of the tender Risk Register.
  • Value engineering throughout the design phase of design and build projects.
  • Presentation of the tender to be presented to senior management at tender settlement meetings including the highlighting of any major commercial issues of elevated risk.
  • Ensure a smooth handover of the project to the operational team.
  • To support and be familiar with own role and responsibility in respect of Business Continuity Planning.
  • Competent use of Microsoft packages e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (essential).
  • All forms of contract including traditional, partnering, design & build, 2 stage tenders and frameworks (essential).
  • Experience of using estimating software (essential).
  • Develop personal skills and capability through ongoing training, experience, and mentoring.
  • Awareness of BIM.
  • Cost Planning.
  • Sound technical and commercial abilities including strong numerical skills.
  • Risk awareness.
  • Having a flexible attitude to people.
  • Creative and innovative approach to problem solving.
