Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, United Kingdom Cambridgeshire County Council Full time
About the Role

This Homelessness Support Specialist position is a crucial part of our team, focusing on providing intensive support to individuals experiencing homelessness and chronic health issues in Cambridgeshire.

Housing First, a leading approach, gives these individuals a stable home where they can rebuild their lives. Our staff are dedicated to this ethos, taking a proactive 'can-do' attitude to help people achieve long-term goals, such as sustaining tenancies and integrating with the local community.

Job Overview

As a key member of our team, you will work closely with individuals who have experienced long-term homelessness and struggled with traditional housing pathways. You will provide holistic support, linking them with essential services like probation, mental health, and physical healthcare, aiming to minimize involvement with the criminal justice system and reduce hospital admissions.

Your role will involve supporting residents in maintaining their tenancies while encouraging participation in community activities, such as volunteering, hobbies, and social events. This fosters personal growth, skills development, and improved mental wellbeing.

We seek an individual committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of vulnerable adults, with strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with service users.

Key Responsibilities
  • To provide person-centered support to individuals experiencing homelessness and chronic health needs, empowering them to take control of their lives and achieve stability.
  • To collaborate with various service providers, ensuring seamless access to essential services and reducing barriers to care.
  • To promote community integration through engagement in activities that foster skills development, confidence, and mental wellbeing.
  • To maintain accurate records, reporting progress and challenges to inform effective support strategies.
Requirements

A degree in Social Work or a related field, along with extensive experience working with homeless populations and those with complex needs, would be advantageous. Strong understanding of Housing First principles, excellent communication skills, and ability to work autonomously are essential.

Appointment to this role is subject to Enhanced Disclosure clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service. We value diversity and strive for inclusivity in our workforce.

About Us
