Sutton in Ashfield, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust Full time
Main Responsibilities

The Primary Healthcare Team provides a wide range of care services, including initial assessment and screening, clinical triage, emergency response, and care for minor illnesses and injuries. We aim to provide healthcare to offenders that is equivalent to those in the community.

Nursing in a custodial environment offers a unique opportunity to provide a positive nurse-led health experience to patients who often face poor health outcomes.

As part of a fully integrated Healthcare Team, you will have the opportunity to make a real difference to our patients, who are often not in receipt of essential healthcare services in the community.

We are able to offer help and support to stabilise long-term conditions, as well as provide treatment for minor injuries and illnesses. We also offer a supportive preceptorship package for newly qualified nurses.

Job Description

The Offender Health Care Group is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Care Group provides physical, mental health, and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands, Lincolnshire, and Leicestershire.

You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of healthcare for patients. This includes the safe administration of medications, providing a triage service, and responding to healthcare emergencies.

  1. Provide a triage service and clinical interventions, recognising environmental limitations and the need for appropriate referral, assessment, and transfer of patients who require care within wider NHS provision.
  2. Respond to healthcare emergencies within the prison in accordance with the Trust's and Local policies and procedures.
  3. Maintain accurate healthcare records and handle sensitive and confidential information appropriately.
  4. Deliver evidence-based care and seek specialist advice from other Healthcare professionals both internal and external.
  5. Act as a named nurse for patients with specialist or complex health needs.
  6. Provide nurse-led clinics in the healthcare centre, on the prison wings, or other suitable settings.
  7. To provide basic leadership to junior staff by maintaining professional standards ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures to ensure the delivery of high-quality care.
  8. To identify patients who could be at risk of self-harm and escalate appropriately and respect patients' individuality and maintain their privacy and dignity within the constraints of the custodial environment.
