Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Band 6 Specialist Nurse Practitioner to join our Acute Pain Management Service at University Hospitals Bristol NHS Foundation Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for a registered nurse with a passion for pain management to work independently, providing specialist advice and support to patients, staff, and carers.

About the Role

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a caseload of patients with acute pain, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individual care needs to ensure high-quality patient safety. They will provide patients and their relatives/carers with specialist advice and support to manage acute pain and complex symptoms in an acute hospital setting.

Main Responsibilities
  • Independently manage a caseload of patients with acute pain, ensuring high-quality patient care and safety.
  • Provide specialist advice and support to patients, staff, and carers on pain management and complex symptoms.
  • Ensure the safety and efficacy of pain management techniques through regular patient contact and direct clinical care.
  • Review and suggest changes to treatment plans based on new information or changes in a patient's condition.
  • Contribute to safe and effective discharge planning.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Significant post-registration nursing experience in an acute setting.
  • Experience in managing acute pain and complex symptoms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team.
  • Valid NMC registration and independent non-medical prescribing qualification or commitment to work towards completion of such.
  • Post-registration qualification in pain management at Degree/Masters level.
