Job Summary

This role is central to delivering high-quality patient care at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post will be primarily based in Basingstoke, with occasional requirements to attend other sites. The post holder will be involved in all aspects of diagnosis and treatment of patients, including anaesthetising for elective operating lists in main theatres, providing pre- and post-operative care, and participating in the resident on-call rota.

Main Responsibilities

The Fellow will be responsible for anaesthetising patients for elective operating lists, providing pre- and post-operative care, and participating in the resident on-call rota. The on-call duties will involve cover of the intensive care department and/or the operating theatres and obstetric anaesthesia.

Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the major provider of hospital services to the population of North and mid Hampshire and surrounding areas. The hospitals in Basingstoke and Winchester provide a comprehensive range of acute services, including being a tertiary referral centre for colorectal, liver, peritoneal carcinomatosis, haemophilia, and pseudomyxoma surgery.

Services are provided across Basingstoke, Winchester, and Andover sites. The Trust covers a population of 600,000, incorporating Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospitals, Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Andover War Memorial Hospital, and community hospitals. We provide one hospital service across multiple localities, delivering services as close as possible to the patient.

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • Full registration with licence to practice with GMC
  • MMBS or equivalent
  • BLTC in Anaesthesia
  • Passed Final FRCA exam

Desirable

  • CCT in Anaesthetics / ICM
  • Life support course instructor

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience in Anaesthetics and Intensive care medicine
  • Ability to cover Intensive care, Obstetric Anaesthesia, and General Anaesthetic duties in both the elective and emergency setting

Desirable

  • Worked in UK NHS

Skills

Essential

  • Manual dexterity performing clinical duties
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to establish good professional relations with others

Desirable

  • Research experience and publications in peer-reviewed journals
  • Taught on life support or deteriorating patient courses

Other Specific Requirements

  • Able to work evenings and weekends
  • Physically and mentally fit with satisfactory occupational health clearance
