Job Title: Assistant Support Worker

Job Summary:

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Assistant Support Worker to join our team at West Berkshire Homeless Service. As a key member of our team, you will play a vital role in providing person-centred support to adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Support clients in attending appointments and encourage their involvement in personal progression through education, training, employment, or volunteering.
  • Help clients develop practical skills in areas such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, and housework, laundry, health, and hygiene.
  • Work with external partners to maximise opportunities for clients to resettle in the community.
  • Empower clients to achieve their desired outcomes for independent living, including involvement in practical tasks within the hostel.
  • Maintain a welcoming and safe environment, identifying and minimising potential risks to users of the premises and the organisation.
  • Maintain client records to a good standard and work in accordance with Health and Safety regulations and all policies and procedures.
  • Attend supervision, appraisal, training, and meetings as directed.

Requirements:

  • Clear verbal and written English
  • Good IT and keyboard skills
  • Polite, assertive manner, ability to self-motivate
  • Passion for working in a client/customer-facing role
  • Knowledge of the benefits system and tenancy legislation
  • Interest and genuine concern for homelessness and related issues
  • Knowledge of voluntary and statutory agencies

About Us:

West Berkshire Homeless Service provides support to adults who are homeless or at risk of homelessness across two locations. Our aim is to provide person-centred support to our clients, empowering them to gain the life skills they require to move on to more independent living.
