Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage site staff, providing guidance and support to ensure the effective delivery of waste management services.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor and enforce the Council's safe systems of work and risk assessments.
  • Develop and deliver training packages and toolbox talks to site staff, ensuring they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their roles effectively.
  • Monitor and enforce the Council's Quality Management System, ensuring that all processes are followed and records are accurate and up-to-date.
  • Issue and monitor PPE and uniforms to staff, ensuring that all necessary equipment is available and in good working order.
  • Drive a Council 3.5 tonne box van, as required, to transport equipment and personnel to and from site.
  • Handle low-level customer complaints, providing a high level of customer service and ensuring that issues are resolved promptly and efficiently.

Requirements:

  • Essential:
    • Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with staff at all levels.
    • Good numeracy and literacy skills, with the ability to understand and interpret data and reports.
    • Experience of dealing with customers, including handling complaints and resolving issues.
    • Experience of line managing multiple staff, including providing guidance and support to ensure effective performance.
    • Experience of delivering training packages and toolbox talks, with the ability to adapt to different learning styles and needs.
    • Valid UK driver's license for driving up to a 3.5 tonne vehicle, with access to own vehicle and insurance to cover business use.
  • Desirable:
    • Hold a valid and relevant Certificate of Technical Competence, with evidence of continued competence.
    • Experience of driving a vehicle up to 3.5 tonnes, with a good understanding of vehicle maintenance and safety procedures.

Working Arrangements:

The role will be based in the field, with regular site visits to supervise and manage site staff. There may be some opportunity to work from home or from County Hall, but this is expected to be minimal. The role is a supervisor of site staff across all the Council's waste sites, and the successful candidate will be required to work a minimum of 1 in 3 weekends, with the possibility of more frequent weekend work.
